Janis Jefferies is an artist writer and curator, Professor of Visual Arts at the Department of Computing, Goldsmiths University of London and Artistic Director of Goldsmiths Digital Studios. Barbara Layne is a Professor of Studio Arts at Concordia University in Montreal and a founding member of the Hexagram Institute for Media Arts and Technologies where she directs an electronic textiles lab, Studio subTela. Jefferies and Layne are pioneers in the field of contemporary textiles within visual and material culture, lecturing and exhibiting internationally. Wearable Absence is a system of dynamic clothing that incorporates wireless technologies and bio-sensing devices to filter media content (images, sound, text and video memories) of an “absent person”, responding to your emotional states throughout the day.
